Instructor car for the driving test

Includes travel time to and from the test centre, a 1–1.5-hour warm-up lesson and insurance cover for the test.

Initial test-readiness assessment
£60 / 1 hour
An assessment is required before we agree to provide an instructor car for your test.
This 1-hour assessment is a separate service. Our regular driving lessons last 2 hours. An assessment does not guarantee access to the car for your test.
Already have a driving test booked?
Please allow at least 4 clear weeks between your first lesson and your test.
- We do not accept new lesson bookings when the test is less than 4 weeks away from the first lesson. Bookings that do not meet this policy will be cancelled and refunded.
- This gives us time to assess your driving, plan further lessons if needed and discuss postponing the test.
- We only provide a test car after prior assessment and structured learning, with your instructor's agreement that you are safe and ready.
- DVSA requires 10 full working days' notice to change a car driving test without paying again. Monday to Saturday count; Sundays and public holidays do not. Check the deadline in your booking confirmation and the current DVSA guidance.

Can I book a 1-hour driving lesson?
No. At Drive Croydon, our standard driving lesson lasts 2 hours. This gives you time to settle in, practise and receive feedback. The separate £60 one-hour test-readiness assessment is the only one-hour service listed here; it is not a regular driving lesson.
How can I get a discount on driving lessons?
Choose our 10-hour block booking for £400. It includes five 2-hour lessons at £40 per hour, instead of the standard £42 per hour. You save £20 compared with booking five single lessons at £84 each. Complete our booking form to request your block and we will get back to you with available lesson times.
Does the 10-hour block include 10 lessons?
No. The block includes 10 hours of tuition, delivered as 5 lessons of 2 hours each.
Are evening and weekend lessons more expensive?
No. Our lesson prices are the same for daytime, evening and weekend lessons: £84 for a single 2-hour lesson or £400 for a 10-hour block. Available times are agreed with your instructor.
Do the same prices apply to refresher and motorway lessons?
Yes. Refresher and motorway lessons use the same lesson rates. Let us know what you would like to work on so we can discuss a suitable lesson.
Can I use your car for my driving test?
Only after a prior assessment and structured learning, and once your instructor confirms that you are safe and ready. The initial 1-hour assessment costs £60. The instructor car for the test costs £130, including travel time to and from the test centre, a 1–1.5-hour warm-up lesson and insurance cover for the test. Completing an assessment does not guarantee use of the car.
My test is less than 4 weeks away. Can I start lessons?
We do not accept new lesson bookings if your test is less than 4 weeks from your first lesson. You must allow at least 4 clear weeks so we can assess your readiness and plan your learning. Bookings that do not meet this policy will be cancelled and refunded.
How many lessons will I need to pass?
This varies from learner to learner. Your previous experience, confidence and progress all matter. We tailor lessons to your needs and discuss your readiness with you. A 10-hour block is a tuition package, not a guarantee that you will be ready for the test after five lessons.
